When you are a new settler in London, it is not unlikely to want to visit London Bridge.

Are you planning to visit London bridge?

It is indeed a great place to start. Yes, it is crowded if you go around peak tourist season. But sometimes the local crowd could add to the fun of things.

However, we understand the importance of itinerary. So, here you go!

An itinerary & guide to visiting London Bridge. From climate to history, to the best places to visit when it comes to lunches.

Let’s Get Rid Of One Confusion

London Bridge isn’t just a place to walk over the river Thames. It’s a whole area full of sights and attractions. The bridge itself may not be as beautiful or iconic as Tower Bridge, but it has been an important crossing point for centuries, connecting Southwark with the City of London.

The current bridge opened in 1973 and replaced a 19th-century stone-arched design.

Talking about things to do. Just a walk across London Bridge gives you great views of the Shard and Tower of London too, so there’s nothing wrong with starting here!

The Hotspot For Food!

London Bridge is a hot spot for great food. Whether you’re looking for lunch on the go or something special with views of Tower Bridge, there’s something for everyone.

As a foodie you must pay a visit to Borough Market, as it is the closest to London Bridge and has everything from fresh produce to greasy street food for when you are in a mood.

If you are craving something fancy, The Ivy Tower Bridge does a perfect job of upholding the British classic restaurant experience with one of the stunning views across the Tower Bridge & the Thames.

Something that has always impressed me at this restaurant is its menu – I swear they must have one of the heftiest menus in all of London!

If you’re after Pasta, Padella always wins for me. Do not worry about the word luxury; the prices are quite affordable (and sometimes even cheap!).

Visiting Tower Bridge

Just a short walk from London Bridge, Tower Bridge is one of London’s most iconic landmarks. Often mistaken for London Bridge, Tower Bridge’s twin towers and drawbridge are definitely a must-see.

The glass walkway high above the Thames offers a thrilling view and a unique perspective of the city (…however, it is not fun for someone with Vertigo). If you are a history fan, we suggest going to the Tower Bridge Exhibition.

It provides fascinating insights into the history and construction of the bridge. Plus, no one can deny it; it is a great spot for photos & selfies while getting a deeper understanding of London’s architectural heritage.

The Weather!

London’s weather can be quite unpredictable, and it’s always good to be prepared.

Wear layers so that you can put on or take off clothing as the temperature changes.

Plus, ALWAYS carry a small but portable umbrella in your handbag.

Brief rain showers are common in London, even in the sunniest of days.

Plus, keep an eye out for weather updates in the morning to plan your day accordingly and soak in London’s beauty no matter what type of weather it may bring with it.

Things To See!

There are a few additional things to see and do around London Bridge.

Take a view from The Shard Viewing Deck on the 72nd floor of (Britain’s largest building.)

Take the lift for impressive views out across London up to forty miles, if you are lucky to have a clear day!

Interested in the sea and nautical facts? HMS Belfast is an old naval warship which now sits in the water as a museum ship. First time being in a museam ship will be surreal.

You can also climb aboard to see its nine decks and learn about how its crew would have lived during service.

For a more tranquil experience, you can also take a walk to the Southwark Cathedral. This small cathedral-type church seems so out of place under the huge frame of The Shard – that you will be curious about taking a peek inside.

When you are tired, there are also some cute cafes nearby offering British afternoon tea!

The Shangri-La hotel at The Shard particularly stands out at night where they decorate the whole building with purple lighting – these were indeed impossible to catch perfectly on camera but it looked SO GOOD!

Get into the Local Spirit

A great way to get to know London Bridge is to wander around it and enjoy the local atmosphere.

There are old buildings mixed with new modern ones, tiny alleyways that lead to hidden gardens or cool little shops.

Get a coffee and either sit by the river or go to a park and watch the world go by.

If you can pluck up the courage, talk to some locals to find out about your next visit. Londoners are generally very friendly and can tell you what’s good in the area!
